ARTISTS STATEMENT
I have generally concerned myself with conceptualizing and illustrating the complexities of geopolitics and globalization, specifically, American governmental reactionary policies regarding military interventionism, immigration, and personal choice. Appropriating from personal experience and mediated information, I aim to cull relevance and define the temperament of our times through an intense scrutiny of what we know as "fact". Autodidactic but yet not overly self indulgent, my work strongly attempts to fluidly respond to systems of authority and it's inherited signs, symbols, and motifs. These concerns and visual cues not only provide the "raw material" for my work but it also informs the direction and form my work should take. At times, a small drawing or a simple found object is sufficient; at other times more complex, larger formats are required in order to unravel the complexities of contemporary culture and politics. Therefore, my work is always multi-layered and does not reveal its many meanings in a passing glance; it asks for some persistence. This multiplicity of means and motives aims for a baroque richness, a deliberate excess in order to fathom a more instinctual unknown.
